Theresa Rivera Design
The Mural Project
Amidst the depravity of COVID19 Theresa Rivera Design is harnessing the spirit of New York City’s creative resilience.
New York City has undoubtedly been hit the hardest by the tidal wave of COVID-19. And with that has come the inevitable and unfortunate shut down of so many establishments that make up The City of Dreams. Neighborhoods, like the Meatpacking Business Improvement District, that once represented the the zesty culture of New York City’s fashion, cuisine, and nightlife were momentarily boarded up. The very streets that earned NYC the nickname The City That Never Sleeps were seeming, well, kinda sleepy.
Thankfully not long after the boards went up, industry veteran and production extraordinaire, Theresa Rivera Design, was commissioned to paint murals over some of the boarded up businesses. In a time where most creative spaces have closed and in a city whose creativity is almost entirely entwined with its resiliency, the murals created by Theresa Rivera Design aren’t mere paintings, but a necessity for recovery. In TRD’s own words, “The ultimate goal is to inspire hope, joy and unity amongst New Yorkers.” There are now ten murals making up what TRD has appropriately named, The Mural Project.

More Murals on are on the way
Theresa Rivera Design recently partnered with Northwell Health who will be sponsoring another round of murals. And in the true spirit of New York City’s ragtag camaraderie, The Mural Project is donating some of its proceeds to Feeding America and City Meals on Wheels .
